The throotle linkage slightly altered !
The broken bolts at the PTO plate.
The access door removed. A screw is missing ! It should be screwed inthe threaded hole just under the drain bolt which has been putted here.
The cylinder head without cover at time of purchase.
The heavy mass fixed under the body
The steps of restoration: The rocker cover was delivered with the tractor but was not mounted. The reason was simple, the support shaft of the rockers was mounted upside down: the threaded hole was on the side of the cylinder head instead of being positioned toward the outside. I have so removed the cylinder head in order to install the shaft correctly. First surprise, the exhaust valve is almost stuck in his guide. It was time to deal with it. I took advantage of removing the rocker box to check the rocker bearings, clean and regrease. All followed by a reassembled in the state of the art. To date, the cylinder head is not installed because I want a cylinderhead gasket in good condition. I took the opportunity to have the cylinder head on the workbench to redress the rocker covers which had been somewhat forced and was bent and cracked. Four wheel nuts were delivered with the tractor and a wheel stud. A tap into the nuts (M16 x 150) and the case is in the bag. Cleaning the stud and hub assembly on the right rear of the stud and two nuts, the other two went nuts on the left rear wheel.
Behind the flat bel pulley, the access door to the governor
The restoration of the tractor: State of tractor at time of purchase: - The engine does not work, the previous owner making me part a problem of engine runing at the start of it. - The rocker cover comes with the tractor but is not installed, why? - Four wheel nuts and a stud come with the machine but not mounted. - A circular mass of several kilograms, is fixed under the front of the box. Is there a risk of rollover of the tractor? - No system of electricity production is present and all electrical wiring is defective. - The headlights and taillights are broken (no glass at front). - Three plate fixing bolts at the PTO are broken. - The brake pedals are locked together in their functioning but they should be independent. - The rear mud guards are cracked in several places. - The free play in the whole direction is about 30 ° at the steering wheel. - The hub of the right front wheel has a relatively large axial clearance. - Tires are cracked but certainly still usable. The left front tire is at the wear limit. - The fuel tank is buried at the passage of the steering column. - The body (wood) is badly damaged by worms and probably also by prolonged exposure to the elements. Here is what this beautiful state tractor arrived at the house. Searching for information: Being very careful (is not it Oliver?) I first, and like all of my machines, started a comprehensive study of the machine as well as research information via the Internet in order to try to found what could cause this problem of engine runing. I also wanted to find views of the tractor when it leaves the factory. The research results: A German, Joachim, passionate Farmax - he dreams of owning one for many years - provided me with a large number of documents, mostly in German, thanks to which I was able to get an idea relatively accurate picture of the original machine. I still have not found a repair manual or parts catalog that would be useful but research progress.
The shaft installed in the right side, here installed with the stub allowing the cover to be secured.
The cylinder head equiped with its cover.
The parts delivered with the tractor.
The door giving access to the slide of the injection pump is removed. We can clearly see the stop screw stucked between the slide and and pump body. This screw should be aligned with he slide.
The injection pump being removed from the engine, a photo is necessary. This is a Bosch PFR typ. The slide being positioned on the left (as one the photo) is the stop position, acceleration is given by moving the slide to the right.
Now some interest in the engine. Why does the engine runs? Luckily, my Benoto is also equipped with a single cylinder Farymann diesel very similar but different to the Motostandard one. Having deeply studied the operation of the injection pump governor system, so I have started to search the defect. Removal of the handle crank claw, and the flat belt pulley, removal of the access door to the governor and at the first sight I think I found the problem: a screw that I say "THE" screw which governe the fuel pump is missing. The engine runs as being restricted by the throttle. A small information that is important is the fact that the engine is under the wood box, all these checking operations have been performed being under the box, and my height m didn't helps. Having now found the problem, I told myself that I would certainly find the screw at the bottom of oil pan. So I decided to drain the crankcase. Installation of an oil pan under the drain plug, removal of the drain plug: a small amountof oil flows, about 1 / 2 liter and then nothing more! After having removed the access door to the conrod cap bolts, an other surprised was there. There is something in bottom of the crankcase, but that's not oil but a kind of mud that I had to remove with a scraper, but still no screw! ! Well, here I thought that something was wrong and it necessary to go further. So I have remove the access door to the fuel injection pump, more to the governor rod to see. Anyway, we cannot see much from this door. Not that it is small, but mostly because there is the wood box just 15cm above and to have a look is not easy. With a mirror that's better, then I discovered that the stop screw of the injection pump is stuck between the slide and control the pump (see photo for clarity). Of course, impossible to remove the screw, it is really stuck without removing the pump. Due to the limited visibility, I have then decided to remove the tray and it was not an easy task. It has been first necessary to removed the famous mass that was bolted under the tray and then try to loosen the nuts and bolts well rusted. The tray being removed, the visibility is much better and I can finally see what's wrong and deduce what's happened a long time ago. After much effort, and swearing, I have finally removed the pump from its housing without damaging the slide. I also managed to remove the twisted screw(see photo). The pump having arrived on the bench, cleaning and unblocking of the slide was necessary because it did not move after the long period during which it had not worked. A bit of diesel and a lot of patience have finally got the better of blocking and the pump has found a new youth. I have straighten the screw use a handpress. Everything is ready to be reassembled. A glance into the hole left by the pump in the sump, I saw a camshaft in good condition for its age, and nothing special.
The big mass which was affixed under the tray
The follow up of the adventures are here !!
One hypothesis : A long time ago, the fuel pump has been removed. When it has been reinstalled, the mechanich who has done the job has not taken care of the screw and has stucked it between the slide and the pump body. The pump being difficult to re-installed, added to the small space under the tray, the guy has screwed the 3 fixing bolts of the pump and the trouble was installed, the stop screw was bent and was blowking the pump at full throotle so the engine runing. Having probably not found why the engine was runing, the mecanish has removed the governor screw (The first screw for those who have not followed the adventures !) and affixed a big mass under the tray so that the front wheels stayed on the ground at the starting.
This is the guilty screw, the screw is clearly bent. A quick use of the hand press protecting the tread and nodoby will ever notice that there has been a problem one day!
